A photographic exhibition

Each year, since 2003, artists have created individual works which together make up the Garma Panel. In 2003, more than 60 artists created etchings from which prints were made. The prints also formed a collaborative panel, measuring 2.5 x 1.6 metres. The individual and collaborative works are now for sale.

Mark Rogers and Eilish Garawirritja Markuniny took these photographs at Garma 2006 for the Yothu Yindi Foundation.

Mark:

"An important aspect of Garma each year is the education and training program. I spend some time there with local indigenous media students talking about working life as a freelance professional and encouraging them to photograph aspects of the thriving traditional Yolngu culture on show at the festival. Some will continue to document their culture and consider careers in visual media."

In 2006 Eilish,  from Galiwinku (Elcho Island), took some stunning still lifes which are featured in this year's exhibition and catalogue.

Mark Rogers is a Sydney based photographer whose work appears commercially and in galleries. He shoots portraits and landscapes for advertising as well as film posters and stills on documentaries, features and indigenous films.
