Gusmao Sends Personal Invitation to Yothu Yindi
Mr Xanana Gusmao,
President of the National Council of East Timorese Resistance (CNRT)
has invited internationally acclaimed band Yothu Yindi to participate
in the celebrations to mark the first anniversary of the historic
popular consultation.
Yothu Yindi
leave for Dili tomorrow to perform a special concert featuring other
acts including the Australian Army Band, Portugese artist Luis Represas
and local Timorese folk bands.
The CNRT sees
the participation of Yothu Yindi in the concert to take place on
the afternoon and evening of 30 August as an important symbol of
friendship between the East Timorese and Aboriginal peoples of Australia.
Yothu Yindi
release their sixth album titled Garma in Australia
today.
The Garma Festival
commences in Gove, North East Arnhem Land on Sunday 3 September
and runs through to Sunday 10 September.
