May 2002: School Bands from Groote Eylandt record an album
During the annual Garma Festival there are music workshops for young,
up and coming bands at the Yirrnga studio.
Students
from the Maningrida Community Education Centre (CEC) used the studio
to rehearse and record songs that were written during their study
in the Certificate in Contemporary Music. After a week of studio sessions,
the students were able to take a CD of their recorded work back to
their community.
In 2001 a compilation CD
was created featuring the Shadow Band from Maningrida, Crystal
Clear from Galiwin'ku, The Yirrkala Big Band and the Miyalk'ku
Band from Yirrkala Community Education Centre and Segregate,
a band from the Nhulunbuy High School
